Oh Dengue Hemorrhagic

In this year, dengue is a major challenge to our family. Started with my hubby, when he got it on the 23 July 2014, just a few days before Eid ul Fitr. He admitted about 7 days in the Prince Court Medical Centre and took almost a month to recover.

Then, on 14 Oct 2014, Zahra was confirmed infected with dengue fever and admitted at Damansara Specialist for 5 days.

At first, we came to take Zahra back home. Suddenly, Sofea got high fever with temperature up to 39*c, and we went to the hospital emergency department specialist to check on Sofea. But the fever did not subside and remain followed by vomiting. After 4 days in the pediatric ward, Sofea still not showing an improvement until she vomited blood on Tuesday evening. Doctor's examination results show that, the platelets has decreased to 46. Wednesday morning, 22 October 2014 Sofea platelets dropped to 36 and accompanied by vomiting blood again. Dr. Iqbal decides to transfer Sofea to the ICU to be taken seriously.

Day 1 : Late Wednesday afternoon, Dato’ Dr. Musa came and took her blood again. Unfortunately, the platelet count result getting down to 24. Finally, he recommends inserting 2 bags of platelet.

Day 2 :  In the ICU stay demonstrated no change in Sofea and her body began to swell and she had no appetite to eat and drink. We also try to give her the extract of papaya leaves.

Day 3 : Sofea began to complain of shortness to breath. Dato’ Dr. Musa suggests making nebulizer every 4 hours and they will monitor the oxygen levels and the ECG.

Day 4 : Looks at the positive changes of Sofea she had begun to eat and drink even less. The Dr. also reduced the nebulizer to 6 hourly.

Day 5 : Alhamdulillah Sofea has been transferred to pediatric ward. She has started to eat and drink as normal.

With Permission of Allah, finally Sofea is recovered from dengue fever. After 5 days in the ICU, today 28 Oct 2014 Sofea will be discharged from the hospital. Apparently our family is very grateful to Allah and redha with the tests.

"This is our journey, He puts us here. It's His plan, so we have just to carry on and trust Him and remember that Allah burdens not a person beyond his ability".

Wallahu a’lam..
